This is very common among twenty-somethings. Most of us feel destined for greatness; however, when we feel like we don’t achieve our dream jobs by age 25, we go into quarter-life crisis mode. This can happen for a number of reasons. Whether it’s because we have a job we don’t like or we’re simply unemployed, a quarter-life crisis is definitely something many twenty-somethings fear.

Sometimes, if you feel undecided about your path, doing research and networking with people can help you get on the right track.

Have you ever considered receiving career coaching? This can be an excellent resource to help you cure your quarter-life career crisis and discover where your career is taking you. Career coaching is a tool that helps you learn about your career through connecting with human resources professional, job search expert, or even taking a class that can help get on track with your career path. Through different career coaching techniques, you will be able to find advice about your job search and receive insight from experts in your field.
3. Create new career objectives.
If your current career goals seem unattainable, maybe it’s time to restructure your career objectives. Throughout your career, you’ll discover you create goals for yourself that you simply cannot reach. Now, these unattainable goals aren’t a reflection of your skills or talents but could simply be unattainable because you haven’t arrived to the right moment in your career.
For example, if you dreamed of becoming a CEO by the time you’re 25, and you haven’t reached that goal, this goal can definitely make you feel pessimistic about your career. Instead of creating an incredibly large goal, try to break it down into smaller career objectives that you can meet over an extended period of time, which can help you work towards the larger goal. Remember, it’s about making sure your career keeps moving forward, so don’t worry about trying to make something extraordinary happen. As long as you are meeting realistic career objectives, then you should feel positive about where your career path takes you.
4. Search for deeper meaning in your work.
When your job begins to feel boring or less than satisfactory, it can definitely make you feel like you’re in the wrong field or have the wrong job. To snap out of this feeling, it may require you find deeper meaning in your work and even change your attitude. Ask yourself if it is truly the job you want to have, and if it is, how you can create a rewarding experience out of it. By asking yourself questions about your job, you will be able to determine your needs and how you can find deeper meaning in your work.
5. Stop comparing your career to others’.
When you compare your career to ones of others, it can definitely make you feel bad about yourself and your career path. Is your best friend traveling the world as a writer for a lifestyle magazine? Did one of your classmates land a job at Google? When you see your friends or colleagues achieve these things, it can make you feel negative about yourself if you haven’t arrived at your dream job. Instead of dwelling on what your friends already have, make it a goal to focus on what’s best for you and what makes you happy. If you have a career that provides you with what you want and need, why should you be so hard on yourself for the type of job that makes this happen?
6. Trying something new.
If your current career objectives simply aren’t meeting your needs, it could be time to explore a new career path. It’s perfectly normal for people, especially twenty-somethings, to switch careers early on in their lives. Although it is ideal for you to stick with one career path, sometimes a drastic change is needed in order to provide you with happiness.
Sometimes all you need to do is take advantage of the career resources you have available and used them to find focus in your career path. From career coaching to reestablishing your career goals, there are many tools available to help you zero in on your career path. Just because you haven’t become the next Bill Gates doesn’t mean you’re career is a failure. All you have to do is put your career path into perspective and you will be on your way to a much happier and fulfilling career.
